second C-clamp floor Ah, there it is! the hotel I'm supposed to stay at I walk in and enter to the elevator and press the button for the hundred and twenty-seventh floor and I look up and notice as I'm floating up to my floor that there is no ceiling just a bar with a small box advancing on it What is it for? It's supported by two C-clamps the box is past the first one now Now it's at the second the elevator doors open and I hear: "Welcome to second C-clamp floor" I wake up next noon and I stretch, and I realize: someone has stolen all my clothes so I go into the living room (it's a very grand hotel and I've got a suite) and Sasha is there so we play a game of chess but it's not following the rules and it's a strange situation and a strange position (on the chess board, that is) two rooks, three knights, and only one king my mind blanks with a flash and I've won the game -- and she's gone... I didn't see her go I look 'round the room it's very bright with the sun and...and it's her from my old high school -- it's the "Israeli Stormtrooper" (substitute teacher from Hell!) so I run quickly to answer Nature's call to the bathroom I flee and as I'm standing there I realize that the wall next to me is a full-length plate glass window and all the construction workers on the roof next door are looking so I flee to the other room of the bathroom which has a sink... and a toilet standing in the middle of the floor -- where the full-size bathtub used to be?? She's stolen it, the bitch! So I order down for breakfast and walk out into the hall (it's really ornate, painted and clean -- the tapestries, carpeting, intelligent cockroaches evolving and all) and dinner arrives with Rachel on the tray (along with pasta, Gatorade, and bill) and the room, I've just noticed doesn't have a roof no wonder it's so bright a sneeze, a snooze... And we wake up on second C-clamp floor as we should -- but it 's not the hundred and twenty-seventh anymore it's... Wait! the building is gone We're just floating on second C-clamp floor (C) Bruce Caruthers 1989 Ver. 1 Rev. 0 TH05111989.0542-PU
